Case Challenge
A chiropractor had refused to release a carpal tunnel patient to modified work prior to having a second consultation with a surgeon. The surgeon had no available appointments for one week.

Our Solution
The nurse obtained a description from the employer with the specific modified work duties written out. The nurse called the chiropractor regarding these duties, which entailed sitting and speaking with no use of hands. After a long conversation and specific questions regarding why she could not speak and sit, he reluctantly said he would evaluate her next week. Since he had just evaluated her two days prior, the nurse insisted that he update the work restrictions prior to next week. When he said he was to busy, the nurse sent a letter with boxes to check and he completed the report. The employee was released to modified duty.
